Taking Great Pictures at Night

Posted by bryboy on Aug 29, 2008

Night Shots

The flash option of your camera is not always the best solution to get images at night. There are cameras that have night options to which proper lighting and focus can be taken. Another thing is to make use of the available lighting you may have. It doesn’t have to be all that glaring. You just have to adjust and make the proper adjustments so you can be able to still come up with great night shots.

So if you think that your flash is enough, it may even ruin the whole image as far as proper rendering is concerned. There is a thing as proper mixture of how the image will come out. There are other factors outside the usual digital camera that can be used. This is something only the professionals understand and unless they are able to tinker around and make use of them rather than avoid them, quality images come from quality shots with artistic direction.

The heart and soul of night photography is the long exposure. When you take a picture at night, you’ll usually measure your exposure in seconds, and that means a tripod is a must. To avoid jostling the camera at the moment you start the exposure, I also suggest using the camera’s self-timer.

Creating the Right Settings Before Shooting

Posted by bryboy on Aug 23, 2008

Digital cameras, depending on how complex your camera may be, will always have a wide variety of features to which most owners may not even realize how to use. Indeed it does seem complicated at first but you can always start with the basics such as setting the right size, flash options and zooming.

To most, a digital camera is only about taking pictures which is partly true. But for the person that would take digital photography to the next level, chances are you better read your manual extensively or even look up some advanced tips on how to be able to shoot photos over the web.

Digital photography enthusiasts have been growing in numbers and part of it is because taking shots has never been made easier with the new breed of digital cameras in the market. There will still be brand preferences like Nikon and Canon and for sure, it will all boil down to the features that they carry.

Sophisticated as it may seem, the rewards for mastering the art of digital photography is quite fulfilling. In the end, it will all be about which images stand out and how you enhance and make them attractive in the eyes of image enthusiasts.

A Choice between Books and Online Reference

Posted by bryboy on Aug 21, 2008

When you take up digital photography, serious people would normally turn to the books or perhaps online references and tutorials that can make them better snapshot artists. With most resources available to anyone these days, it is just a matter of time before they can be able to be in line with the modern photographers who have mastered the art and provided a lot of lucrative photos that really originate from raw and simple images.

But the question here is which references are truly reliable? Well a lot of it would depend on how a person would want to garner information and use it as a form of guideline when it comes to actually implementing it. For some, digital imaging is all about how you conceptualize and render raw images into better ones. But the thing here is that not all people can be that creative.

A good thing about photography is that you can enhance images better than the raw photo and make them as appealing and desirable in the eyes of people who get to see them. But apparently, photography is a never-ending process meaning that one enhancement is not the end of it all.

Simple application of effects is one thing but to check out various areas such as layering and image adjustments is another. It is all about trying to come up with a unique and attractive photo to which will surely be a great product based on how you can be able to produce better images after shooting them with your reliable digital camera.

Clean Your Raw Images Patiently

Posted by bryboy on Aug 19, 2008

The easy part is snapping away with your camera on any image you want captured. The hard part is really how to clean it up using your preferred software for image enhancement, something that may not really be easy if you are the impatient person like most people are today.

We see a lot of people who clean out images and render better photos thanks to their effort. When shooting picture, there are bound to be some spots like dust or red eyes which you want to take out and surely, this will need a lot of your patience as well since it is not that easy to do in a couple of seconds.

Raw images depend on the resolution and size you have set prior to taking the picture. For all intents and purposes, it would be best to use the high resolution and best quality options so that in case you would want to smoothen that image, you will not have to worry about certain problems which include having to lower the image quality due to limits in terms of size and captured shots.

For some people, this is a waste of space on their SD cards. Indeed, for the common person who just shoots away, it will be a problem. But if you are among the professional photographers today, chances are you have become prepared and normally, they have upgraded for it.

The key towards cleaning and retaining image is that you have to leave out some boundaries. It is not an easy task if you are not used to it, with reference to image editing and cleaning. But if you want to get good images, chances are you better invest and plan for it to render great quality photos for people to see.

Use the Right Brushes in Adobe

Adobe Brushes

If you are an Adobe Photoshop addict, chances are you will look around for other elements and tools that will help you in your image editing work. Among them include brushes and filters, normally not included in the software when you install it. For sure though, you have to understand how to install and use them. Finding them is one thing but putting them to use is another.

One tip, don’t be overeager when it comes to downloading add-ons in Adobe. Some people have done this and eventually, they don’t even bother to use them. One downfall is you are downloading and installing, eating up disk space and slowing down the software. Overall, do not download if you have no plans of using them.

But to the geniuses of Adobe Photoshop, learning to use these add-ons will be rewarding. Normally, using the default brushes and filters can become routine and for the advanced Adobe Photoshop users, the need for something different and more challenging is bound to arise.

New brushes, tools and filters can be downloaded from the main website of Adobe. Just check them or sign up for email updates. For the people who are enthusiastic about it, most of them will be the first to get their hands on these latest Adobe Photoshop add-ons and implement them with their daily editing tasks.

Editing in between Views

Zooming in Adobe

The standard view that most of us would get when we use photo editing software would be 100%. At this point, we would hardly notice the lines or pixels that would come out if we zoom closer. We can zoom in on pictures at 500% at the most wherein all we would see would be dots and shades of color to which we can edit more easily but longer.

Such a practice is only done by the specialists. Most of the time, we would be satisfied with the standard settings to which we modify in the basic ways to which the standard tools present can provide us. But when it comes to editing some photos, the need to consider zooming in and using the various photo editing tools may be needed. We do not always see the problem from afar and sometimes if you want your editing on a certain image to be perfect, you just have to go up close and make sure that you are really improving the image rather than destroying it.

Using the zoom tool is quite simple and not appealing for most. But compare your work using the default zoom or more general image with the ones who go into detail and you will see the difference as far as photo rendering and improvements are concerned. Photo editing is easy but you have to know at what level you should come up close to the image files up for editing should be.

Turning on the Grid Guides in Adobe

Posted by bryboy on Aug 6, 2008

Using Grid Guides

One thing that makes good graphics designs today is making use of guides. In most software such as Adobe or Corel Draw, you will notice that with all the windows and tools you can use, it would be best to have guides, especially when you want focus and proper dimensions to be met.

Some graphics artists make use of a blank workspace since they feel that they know the exact coordinates of enhancing graphics and design. That is perfectly all right. But once it is time to export towards the final draft of your graphic, you may notice some lack of spacing and centering of the final graphic. When you are trying to do this without guides, such miscalculations are only normal considering it is different when you are about to finalize your edited graphic.

One thing about graphics and photography is focus and attention. At times, we leave it all up to the raw image and focus on effects and all. Depending on how you take pictures or snapshots, it may not always be balanced as far as the image to be rendered is concerned.

Just turn on the grid on the windows panel on the second to the last menu item of your software. It may seem hazy to the eyes but as far as making pictures stand out and balancing everything, it minimizes the need to edit pictures to perfection which may be a total waste of time.

Adjusting your Workspace

Adobe Workspace

When you do image editing, your workspace will make a difference in your productivity. Default windows will be opened and for the seasoned artist, you know which window panels you will need. Closing other panels that will not be relevant to what you are doing not only saves on space but lessens complication such as throwing you off guard and deceiving you when you start working on graphics and photos.

Ideally, this method seems to be useless for most digital imagery artists. As long as you can shoot any scene with your digital camera and upload it, you just have to tweak the image a bit, perhaps add some effects and you are done. But others take it to another level, using various layers and masks to enhance images that produce rich pictures that many would perceive as a work of art. It is not really all about how well you can use your software, it is about focusing and using your creativity which can be done with the right tools in your workspace.

The only good thing I see about these other panels like brushes or enhancers is that they provide broader dimension towards being able to push photographers to do more with their images. Works of art can be achieved through it which include changing the colors, tinkering around with various parts such as blurring them or emphasizing on certain portions of an image which totally changes the original one. All of these can be achieved through photo editing.

Some may attribute it to the lenses that take the shoot but they are really more because how well you can use image editing software such as Adobe or Corel. Depending on which application a person has been used to, what is really important is production. As far as the image is concerned, it is left there for your to alter and improve.

Maximize your Image Editing Workspace

Posted by bryboy on Jun 28, 2008

All of us aspire to be like the professional graphics artist these days and apparently it all boils down on how well we can transport images and make use of the usual image enhancing software such as Adobe Photoshop to come up with ecstatic images.

It is indeed easier said than done. For one thing, people with creative thoughts are bound to come up with better raw image enhancers, making envy photographers like yours truly, scratching your head and try to imitate what they have done. There is more to producing classy images than having a high mega pixel camera. It is the end product photo that is really to be admired.

One thing you should consider, do not try to overdo it. Some people think that fancy filters and graphic enhancers can impress the normal viewer. It is all about rendering and balancing an image that makes it something worthwhile. But while you are occupied with making a picture standout, know first the commands and the elements you need when you will start to edit a photo. There is no sense in having multiple windows containing commands if you are not going to use them.

In short, make your working space window worthwhile. There are some people who have a lot of commands and enhancers that they want to use but you can always bring them up once they are needed. Having too much tabs and windows can project a cramped working area. Once that happens, you will be more inclined to address the problem of finding the comfortable position rather than focusing on what parts of the image to enhance.
